1806: John Keeney to Thomas Jr. H:48 67 acres on French Broad River 18 April 1806
James Keeney d. 20 February 1814 in the service of the United States while in the Hiwassee District. Sarah was his first wife and she applied for a widow’s pension. On 23 October 1823, the court named James’ minor heirs as Isham age 12, Peggy, age 10, Alfred and Matilda, ate 8, Betsy age 17 (on the 14 Dec. 1817?) and Sarah age 14. Henry Hickman was appointed their guardian. (The family had come to Tennessee from North Carolina, according to the court sworn statement.)

Missouri
John Keeney was an early settler of Ray County, Missouri where he engaged in farming and stock raising. He was a native of Tennesse and was his wife, Mary Ramsey (Buckhaulter) Keeney. In 1842, the family moved to Holt Co., but the father died there in 1845. [Portrait and Biographical Record of the Willamette Valley, Oregon. Chicago: Chapman Publishing, 1903, p. 1159]
John Keeney left a will in Holt Co. Missouri dated 26 Nov. 1845; pvd. 5 May 1846 naming wife Mary; bequests to Mary and Jane McLaughlin, daughter Rebecca Laningham and sons Elias and Eli Keeney. (W:7) After her husband's death, widow Mary joined her son Elias in Oregon. She died near Brownsville at the age of 89 years.

i. Elias Keeney b. 18 December 1828 in Ray County, Missouri. d. ca. 1903 in the Brownsville, Oregon area. m. October 1850 in Holt County, Missouri Margaret Jane Hyatt. She d. 1861 in Oregon. He left Holt Co. on 10 May 1846 with his ox teams headed for Oregon. After settling, there he returned to Missouri to marry and take his mother west. He brought his family with the exception of one brother and two sisters. [unnamed]
ii. Eli Keeney b. 18 December 1828 [twin] d. 10 November 1878 in Lane County, Oregon. bd. Keeney Cemetery. m. Holt Co. Missouri 30 Jan. 1848 Elizabeth Pierce. She was b. 1 December 18323 and d. 1 January 1904. (The transcribed records call her the wife of Samuel Holloway, but she is buried next to Eli.
iii. Rebecca Keeney b. 4 July 1822 in Missouri d. 23 September 1895 m. (1) 24 November 1838 in Ray Co. William Landingham. They moved to Oregon m. (2) 27 November 1851 Lane Co. Oregon Daniel B. Putnam.
[Andrew J. Keeney probably belongs with this group since he is buried in the same cemetery and named children: George R., Francis, Elias P. and Mintley J.

Hannah Cooper b. 3 January 1820 and d. 15 March 1860. (2) Amanda Matthews b. 20 May 1827 d. 2 October 1982. They are buried in the Keeney Cemetery in Lane County between the Coast Fork Bridge and Cloverdale.
Jonathan Keeney m. in Henry Co., Mo. 18 April 1844 Adaline Lamb. They were married by Isaac England, Min. M.E. Church. Descendant gives his middle name as Harding.

1841: Jonathan Keeny to Lazarus & Jeremiah Phillips Lease Dec 24 1841 A:15 A lease to the improvement upon which Jonathan then resided together with two wagons, three yoke of oxen, two plows and three horses and fifty head of Hogs and Jonathan agreed to assist on the farm the said Phillips having given possession of the above farm, improvements, distillery and apperturances, wagons etc. to to the said Philips for the sum of $3000. They are also bound to furnish for the maintenance of the said J. Keeney and his family whatever is necessary for their support ot of the proceeds arising from the farm and stock. Phillips also agrees to make a fence necessary to for the keeping of stock and that at the expiration of the said lease on 1 March 1843 the above named L & J. Phillips shall pay $3000 to Keeney. They paid $1800 towards the payment. Lazarus Philips and Jeremiah Phillips.

1846: Andrew Jackson Keeney to Henry M. Bush 24 Feb. 1846 assigned Certificate B:40 SW 29-59-37 Land Office in Savannah 8 October 1845 certified that A.J. Keeney did on 8 October 1845 assign his pre-emption right, as assignee of Jonathan Keeney, to the SW of 29-59-37 containing 160 acres.

Jonathan Keeney took out 640 acre provisional claim in Champoag Co. on 26 April 1847 intending personal occupancy. About 5 miles above Calapoiah River. James Blakey did same and Elias Keeny did same in same place, same date.
